The Messiah and Messiness

Jesus came for the messy people.

He came for the ones who’ve made mistakes and messed up big-time.

He came for the ones whose lives aren’t picture perfect.

He came for the ones who don’t have it all together.

He came for the ones who aren’t completely accepted or loved or admired.

He came for you and for me.

Jesus came to save the disheveled, upset, my-life-is-a-wreck, where-are-you-God us. He came to save the us that gets mad at others, that lies, that wants to crawl under the covers and hide forever, that trips over our own feet, that forgets to do something we were supposed to do–in short, the us that is a disaster!

The dressed-up, sitting-in-a-church-pew, cheerful, everything’s-going-good, praise-the-Lord us doesn’t need saved. Jesus said:

“Those who are healthy and strong don’t need a doctor–the sick and weak ones do! I didn’t come to save good people, but sinners.”

Mark 2:17, my words

He’s not repelled or disgusted or scared away by our messiness and scars. In fact, when He walked on this earth, He chose messed-up, broken, unfit, looked-down-on people to be His disciples!

He wants to save us, cleanse us–not make us perfect or completely erase our past. He wants to redeem us, not fix us.

And He doesn’t just save us. He loves us, takes care of us, uses us to do His work, and loves us some more. 😊

You don’t have to be perfect or even just good-enough. Jesus Messiah came for the messy you.
