Tell me why
The sun doesn’t always shine.
Tell me why
Everything’s not always fine.
Tell me why
I can’t always feel Your hand.
Tell me why
I can’t see where this road ends.
I don’t know where I’m going;
I can’t see where You’re leading.
Lord, I have so many questions,
And I’m feeling desperation.
Tell me why must it be this way…
Then I heard a gentle voice say:
Tell Me why
You can’t see I’m in control.
Tell Me why
You doubt I care for your soul.
Tell Me why
You believe the devil’s lies.
Tell Me why
You think I don’t hear your cries.
I am mightily working,
But you’re just not yet seeing;
Like as the Israelite children
Didn’t see Me stop the Jordan.
Tell Me why must it be this way–
Can’t you simply trust and obey?
I wrote this poem last September. There had been some uncertainty going on in my and my family’s life, and I really wanted some answers, wanted to know what was going to happen. I read in my devotions at that time about when the Israelites had to cross the Jordan River, they didn’t immediately see God stopping the water; it happened upstream where they couldn’t see. But they did see the results then. The author said that oftentimes we don’t right away see God working–it may take awhile before we see anything happening; but He is working. Anyway, that’s kinda what inspired this poem. 🙂
Thanks for this reminder! It’s so easy to forget that God has it under control and we can rest in that fact.
YOu are amazing at writing good poems!
Aw, thanks! I’ve been writing poems since 2015 I think; I’ve trashed quite a few though! 😄
